In the Archipelago of Cape Verde in Africa you´ll find more than 3000 different species of which about 1000 of them are endangered. The Seca jungle of Cape Verde is one of the best places to go. Selva Seca of Cape Verde is a symbol of nature in this archipelago. It is defined in 4600 kms2 of which these 10 islands form this country. There are deserted areas, volcanos that are active, vegetation, animal species....all of this forms the Seca Jungle, an authentic symbol of Cape Verde, Africa.
If we speak of flora and fauna in Cape Verde we must mention that before human settlements on the islands, they were covered completely in vegetations. Something that has slowly dissapeared with the passing of time due to mankind. The areas that are still highly vegetated are those that inacessible to people due to the volcanos.
The fauna and flora in the islands are proud to have birds like sparrows, and vultures. The actual state of conservation in the Seca Selva and what is manifested in WWF Adena as critical for people and the introduction of other speces that are not from this area.
The highest peak in the entire archipelago is found in the island of Fogo, mainly in Mount Fogo which has 2838 meters in height, and is a volcano whose last eruption happend in 1995. Santo Antao is the island with the most vegetation, mostly because it is also the one that gets the most rain! |
